Lip enhancement is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have severe allergies to any components of the filler, are under 18 years of age, have a history of severe or multiple allergies, or have an active infection or inflammation in the lip area. It’s important to discuss your full medical history, including any medications or supplements you are taking, with your injector to ensure the treatment is safe and suitable for you.

The injection process for lip enhancement typically takes around 30-45 minutes. Your practitioner will clean the treatment area and may apply a topical anaesthetic to ensure your comfort. Using a fine needle, the dermal filler is carefully injected into specific areas of the lips to achieve the desired shape and volume. You might feel a slight pinch or pressure during the injections, but the discomfort is generally minimal and brief.

Lip enhancement fillers usually contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body and helps maintain skin hydration and volume. When injected into the lips, the filler adds volume, defines the lip borders, and smooths out fine lines, creating fuller and more contoured lips. Hyaluronic acid fillers also stimulate collagen production, enhancing the lips’ texture and elasticity over time.

Recovery time after lip enhancement is minimal. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites may occur and typically resolve within a few days. To aid recovery, avoid strenuous activities, excessive sun or heat exposure, and alcohol for at least 24 hours post-treatment. Full results are usually visible immediately and continue to improve over the next few days as any swelling subsides. The effects can last from 6-12 months, depending on the type of filler used and individual factors.
